Advanced Communication Design, Inc. was established in 1986 in Bloomington, Minnesota, with a singular mission: to pioneer human expression and communication design. For decades, our engineering team has driven breakthroughs in electronics, secured foundational utility technical patents, and managed global engineering partnerships.
Following a seven-year operational hiatus, we have returned to our roots. Today, Advanced Communication Design, Inc. merges our traditional engineering legacy with cutting-edge ambient AI technology. Our modern flagship electronics - including the ACDStar Mentis™ Smart Pen and the Sonus™ AI Voice Recorder - bridge the gap between classic handwriting and modern AI convenience voice recording. A Message From Our Founder: Forty Years of Innovation
From Enterprise Infrastructure to Personal Productivity
My journey in technology began with a simple belief: specialized communication tools should seamlessly enhance how we work. In 1986, I founded Advanced Communication Design (ACD), Inc., serving as its President/CEO and driving operational force. Over the decades, I have guided ACD from its inception into a multi million-dollar pioneer of innovative digital merchandising, interactive media kiosks, and global communication networks.
As an innovator holding multiple United States utility patents in multimedia hardware, software, and data processing networks, my passion has always been engineering structural solutions for complex workflows. Under my leadership, ACD deployed and managed widespread multimedia systems for dominant domestic retailers, including Target, Lowe’s, and Walmart and corporate clients like Verizon, AT&T, 911 services, etc. Expanding internationally, I collaborated directly with Sony in Japan to implement our proprietary technology and spearheaded media system rollouts inside major European retail giants like Carrefour in France and Virgin Megastores.
The Birth of the Dual-Input Ecosystem
Throughout this 40-year career as an international executive, my daily workflow relied on a constant mix of writing down strategic insights and managing high-stakes verbal communications. I quickly realized that traditional keyboard typing during meetings and note-taking stifles true creative focus, while chaotic scraps of paper or basic, disconnected voice recorders fracture brilliant ideas.
That is why over the past few years, I centered ACDStar’s modern mission on delivering the ultimate dual-input workspace: the Mentis™ Digital Handwriting System and the Sonus™ AI Voice Recorder. Together, these tools bridge your natural creative instincts with the digital world - capturing, transcribing, and organizing your ink and voice simultaneously.
A Lifetime of Proven Innovation
Beyond ACDStar, my deeply rooted passion for technological architecture continues through operating Nicollet Technologies Corporation - manufacturing patented, handheld testing equipment for telecommunication giants like AT&T and Verizon—and serving as Chief Managing Director of Golden Gate Enterprises, LLC. I also hold a Master’s Degree in Business Management and Communication from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, and am humbled to remain recognized in the legal community as the central figure in a landmark Minnesota Supreme Court case that permanently established judicial protections for minority shareholder equity nationwide.
